Like the ocean, Yoli Lara will draw you in. A gorgeous and radiant model from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Yoli is our Miss June 2019. “For me, the beach is everything,” she begins. “I was born on an island, so I feel very tied to the ocean.” A dreamer and go-getter, Yoli knew she had to leave Puerto Rico to chase her dreams. “I left all my family. I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone,” she tells us. After Hurricane Maria hit, Yoli moved back home to help. “I told my mom, ‘I’m going to compete for Miss Puerto Rico in the Miss Universe pageant. I want to use that platform to say something.'” During this time, Yoli worked with a local nonprofit to aid in the supply of clean water in her hometown. “Winning would have been a dream, but it wasn’t in the cards for me,” she says, looking back. “If I had won, I wouldn’t have been able to do this story!" After moving to Los Angeles again, it hadn't even been two weeks until we asked Yoli to be our Miss June. “I remember thinking, this is it — my validation,” she says, “the universe follows through.” Now more than ever, Yoli wants to use her platform to spread positivity and awareness. “I said yes because I think any chance a woman gets to showcase her power is a great opportunity.
